No carbon in SofTap colors! Why is that? Doesn’t it stay better? Why do so many manufacturers choose carbon?
The latest trend in pigments is “chasing retention.” When a client needs 3 appointments for lasting color, I think a lot of artists start to look critically at their pigments, therefore manufacturers are doing everything they can to make things “stick” better. This can be better for an experienced artist, but even so, is this the right decision? Should permanent makeup really be that permanent?
SofTap has worked with artists of all levels for 33 years. Retention is of course one of the most important aspects of a good pigment, but it is not the whole picture. We consider safety to be #1. A nice aged result and colors which are easy to work with are next after that. Artists need to be able to adjust color, correct their (or others’) mistakes, and clients need a little freedom to update their style as trends change.
Carbon colors give less room to do these things. Therefore, we don’t currently include this ingredient in our colors. Here are some reasons why:
1. Carbon is much less forgiving for artists—one procedure can leave you with stubborn mini blobs for hair strokes, a permanent dark/gray brow, or migrated eyeliner (less likely with softap than a machine, but there is still a small possibility)
2. Carbon colors consistently fade gray over time and potentially blue—these results are much more difficult to correct later than warmth
3. Carbon doesn’t fade as much over time and is harder to remove—this means there is less room for clients to change their style/shape later.
SofTap puts clients first, and we are always working to improve our colors for greater retention.
We are excited to bring new things to the industry and to your future clients! But of course if you want a carbon color, let us know! If you like those qualities, we can always revisit carbon in the future. Irene
